Sadly, the music streaming service Rdio shut down in December 2015. This post is preserved in its honor.

Rdio is pretty neat, but I’ve been missing out on some of the fun because I can’t sync my music collection to my Rdio account. I don’t use iTunes or Windows Media Player, so the Rdio Desktop Music Collector doesn’t do me much good.

Thankfully, there’s a great Rdio API that we can use to manually sync from the filesystem. I put together a command-line Python tool that takes care of the job, or at least it did for me. You can run it multiple times safely, as it keeps track of which albums have already been uploaded.

The tool is available on GitHub at rdiosync - I hope it’s helpful for someone else, too.
